Seed Made out of Opal (2022) is a small-scale ecosystem of raw materials like stones and dusk, objects from every- day life, and electrical devices that influence one another’s state of being. Faced with a friend’s untimely passing, Park came to understand the threshold between living and non-living not as absolute but as a spectrum and designed a circuit of varied and equally significant beings. Generating frail movements and sound, the simple yet glorious microcosmos questions the human species’ privilege over other living and non-living beings and redefines it as a mode of being which has been temporarily granted a life among diverse organisms, minerals, and energies.
